♦ ANSI Standards Stainless Steel Pipe

In the building and engineering industries, stainless steel pipe is one of the more standardised materials. The thickness of the pipe walls, the diameter of the pipe, and even chemical composition are all written down as part of the American National Standards Institute standards, which are just one of many available. A hollow steel bar is a large number of pipes used for conveying fluids such as oil, gas, water, gas, steam, heat exchanger, and mechanical machine. Furthermore, they are lighter, have a higher torsional strength, and are widely used in the manufacture of mechanical parts and engineering structures. Because it is more resistant to saltwater corrosion than type 304, it is also known as "marine grade" stainless steel. SS316 is frequently used in the construction of nuclear reprocessing plants. Steel pipes are long, hollow tubes that are used for several purposes. They are made in two ways, resulting in a welded or a seamless pipe. Wall Thickness

The term schedule refers to the wall thickness of stainless-steel pipe as classified by the American National Standards Institute. Despite this standardisation, the wall thickness of each pipe diameter is not the same. Instead, the schedule refers to the pipe's overall strength. As a result, the wall thickness of a schedule 40S stainless pipe is around 1.73mm for a 10.3mm outer diameter pipe but climbs to 9.53mm for a 323.9mm diameter pipe of the same schedule. There are four general schedules for stainless pipe: 5S, 10S, 40S, and 80S.


ANSI-standard stainless-steel pipe diameters are available within each pipe schedule. The sizes range from 10.3mm (or.405 inches) to 323.9mm (or 12.75 inches). It should be noted that not all diameters are available in every schedule. For example, the smallest diameters are not available in schedule 5S, and many diameters are difficult to find or very expensive if they are available in some schedules.


Although ANSI standardises stainless steel pipe, there are numerous stainless-steel formulas available. ANSI 304 stainless steel and ANSI 316 stainless steel are the two primary sheets of steel used in the production of stainless steel pipe. Both sheets of steel have similar chemistry and differ only slightly in chromium content.

Heat treatment technology of stainless-steel pipe surface

Non-oxidation continuous heat treatment furnaces with protective gas are commonly used abroad for intermediate heat treatment and final heat treatment of finished products in the heat treatment technology of the surface of stainless steel pipes. Because a bright, oxidation-free surface can be obtained, the traditional pickling process is avoided. This heat treatment process not only improves the surface of stainless steel pipes but also eliminates the pollution caused by pickling.

Bright annealing continuous heat treatment furnaces are divided into two types, according to the manufacturer of stainless steel pipes, based on the current global development trend:

(1) Bright annealing heat treatment furnace with rollers.

With an hourly output of more than 1.0 Tons, this bright annealing furnace type is suitable for heat treatment of large-size and large-volume special-shaped stainless-steel pipes. Protective gases that can be used include high-purity hydrogen, decomposed ammonia, and others. It can be outfitted with a convection cooling system to quickly cool the specially shaped stainless-steel tube.

(2) Bright annealing heat treatment furnace with mesh belt.

This type of bright annealing furnace is appropriate for small-diameter thin-walled precision special-shaped stainless-steel pipes. The hourly output ranges between 0.3 and 1.0 Tons. The steel pipe can be up to 40m long. It is also capable of processing capillary tubes in coils. For quick cooling, a convection cooling system is installed. Various protective gases can be used when heating with gas or electricity. After this furnace-type heat treatment, the stainless-steel pipe has no scratches and a bright surface.

♦ Stainless Steel Tube

The outside diameter of stainless steel tube is commonly measured, and it may be utilised in a range of applications, including several structural applications.

Furthermore, they are lighter, have a higher torsional strength, and are frequently employed in the fabrication of mechanical components and engineering structures. Also utilised in the manufacture of conventional weaponry like barrels, artillery projectiles, and so forth.

Because it is more resistant to seawater corrosion than type 304, it is often known as "marine grade" stainless steel. SS316 is often used in the construction of nuclear reprocessing reactors.

Cold-finished stainless steel tube technology

Our sophisticated procedure for creating seamless tubing starts with either an extruded hollow tube or a solid bar that has been drilled to our stringent requirements. The material is subsequently reduced in size several times using various cold working processes until it meets our customer's exact size, tolerances, and temper. The tubes are cut, cleaned, and heat treated after each cold working cycle in preparation for the next cold working process.


The size of the tube is reduced in three dimensions: outward diameter (OD), internal diameter (ID), and wall thickness. We roll a taper-matched, hardened steel mandrel around the exterior of the tube while supporting the interior diameter with a die fitted with a tapered groove.

We can accomplish a large decrease in cross-sectional area in a single cold working step while reducing material loss and, most significantly, enhancing the material's microstructure. The bulk of the volume treated by tube reduction or pilgering is made up of seamless tubes.

Cold Rolling

Tube rolling, like pilgering, employs compression to minimise the size of seamless tubes. Unlike pilgering, which uses a pair of grooved, tapered dies to move the metal over a tapered mandrel, tube rolling employs one or two sets of rollers with constant cross-section grooves around the circumference of the tube.

Cold rolling is a precise way of decreasing very thin walled and/or smaller diameter tubes that are frequently employed as the final cold working phase. At Renaissance Metal Craft Pvt. Tube rolling is particularly suited to treating rare metals such as titanium and zirconium alloys because it involves compression.

Cold Drawing

Cold drawing, which is typically employed as the initial technique of size reduction for seamless tubes, decreases the diameter by dragging the tube through a die that is smaller than the tube. To fit the tube into the die, one end is swaged or 'tagged,' decreasing the diameter of the leading end before drawing. The narrower end of the tube is then pushed through the die and secured to a drawing trolley, which pushes the tube through the die. Before cleaning, the 'tag' is chopped off the tube end after drawing.
